Are my documents sent to the cloud?
No, not by Sigillarium. Your documents stay on your device and are never sent to our servers. They only leave it if you decide so: by sharing a document, or by storing an encrypted backup wherever you like (USB drive, computer, Google Drive…).
Why do you need an internet connection?
Only to check your Premium subscription. There is no account and no login: document management works offline, and nothing your documents contain ever travels over the network.
What happens if I lose or change my phone?
Without a backup, the contents of your vault are lost: the key that encrypts it is locked inside your phone's hardware keystore and never leaves it. A migration tool (Smart Switch, iCloud) copies the files, not the key.
To change phones: Settings › Vault backup › Export the vault. The app creates an encrypted archive and a backup key, which your password manager offers to save. Store the archive off the phone, then, on the new one, tap Restore a backup.
If your phone is lost or stolen, only a backup made beforehand lets you recover your documents.
What if I lose my backup key?
The archive becomes unreadable, permanently. We keep no copy of your key and cannot recover it: that is what guarantees nobody else can open your backups. The phone that made the export keeps a copy, visible after authentication (Show my key), but it disappears with the phone.
Is the backup a paid feature?
No. Exporting and restoring your vault is free for everyone. A restore respects the free version's limits: beyond them, documents stay in the archive, and the app lists them by name. They are never lost: with Premium they restore in full, and without a subscription they remain readable on a computer with
our free tool.
Can I read my backups without the app?
Yes. The archive format is public and documented, and a small open-source program decrypts them on a computer with your key. Your backups stay readable even if Sigillarium were to disappear. See

Does a watermark really stop my documents from being reused?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. A visible watermark can be cropped, retouched, and today's AI tools remove it quickly and well. What it does: it states an intent ("copy given to this organisation, on this date, for this purpose"), it discourages opportunistic reuse — by far the most common kind — and it makes removal a deliberate act, hard to justify in a dispute. Burglaries happen, and we still lock our doors. The AES-256 encryption of your vault, on the other hand, is not a deterrent: without your device or your backup key, your documents are unreadable.
How does the watermark work?
You write the text of your choice, visible on your images and PDFs — in a standard style with adjustable opacity in the free version. Premium lets you choose the font, size, color, rotation, position, shadow and outline.
Can I switch from Premium to Free?
Yes, anytime from your Google Play or App Store subscriptions. You keep Premium access until the end of the paid period.
